Seeing the success of a guest’s hard work is so rewarding. Congratulations to Ivy Gordon for your honorable mention in the prestigious Julia Margaret Cameron Award for Women Photographers!!
To celebrate 10 years of Piper Mackay Photo Safaris, I approached Greg Thomason about creating an extremely special photographic experience with the Suri Tribe, the most talented and exotic across Africa. We pulled out all the stops and set up an entire safari camp along the river in the heart of the stunning Suri land. We wanted to immerse ourselves into this experience with plenty of time not to be rushed, allow the creative vision to flow naturally, and the comforts to be fully charged. When given the time and comfort, rather than rushing through an area with long, exhausting drives, you are bound to create more powerful images. Ivy states this in her own words.
“This unique trip created the most extraordinary opportunity to live adjacent to the Suri villages for 8 days. I had the opportunity to make images from dawn to dusk as in-between our outings the villagers wandered into camp to interact and be photographed. My tent had 5 windows, 2 doors, a real bed with linens, solar light, a workspace for my laptop, my own 6-socket power strip, an en-suite toilet and shower, and my own patio in the shade to sit and watch the river I cannot emphasize enough that the comfort and access on this trip was well worth the cost. This was a very special experience!”

Initially, this was designed as a private trip for repeat clients who helped make Piper Mackay Photo Safaris successful. However, the entire experience was so exceptional Greg and I decided we must offer it one more time as an open trip and keep it as a small group of only 6 guests and two leaders.
